Marlands in Devon

posted by Peter(R), 17.03.2009, 17:03

I have been researching the Marland Family in Devon for some 10 years.
There are many references to Marland, in Devon, in all the censuses. My research has shown that they are all related by a single family tree. Indeed I believe it is the only Marland family, in Devon, extending over the whole of the 19th century. The earliest entry I have is for Mary Marland born~ 1745. The earliest I have with a direct link to the family tree is Mary Marland Born 1786, Pilton. The rest of the family tree are all resident around Barnstaple.Later moves by some family members take them to Cardiff and Portsmouth.

How did a Marland family come to be in Devon in the 18th century?
The trail in Devon seems to go cold before this time. Yet we have Peters Marland and Marland Moor not far from Barnstaple.
Did an ancester from Lancashire move to Devon?

Any interest in Marlands ofDevon?
