New book about St Petersfield Ashton under Lyne
I am so pleased to see this book advertised on the Marland website. I am one of the authors and when I researched the bottom end of Stamford Street I found George Marland aged 55 labourer with his family of Elizabeth aged 35 dressmaker, Alice aged 25 dressmaker and Obadiah aged 20, who was working in the iron foundry. The reference is 1841 census HO107 532/7 folio 21 p 2. The book gives a picture of life at this end of town : its workplaces, pubs, people, places of worship, baths and events. We have currently sold 150 of the 200 books printed and the profits will be used to help to fund next year's FREE copy of the magazine History Alive Tameside that is produced by Tameside Local History Forum. Best wishes Shirley(Marland)Howard
